Martin Luther King Jr. Commemoration

OUR APPROACH TO GOD
Prelude
Introit

Welcome and Call to Worship: Psalm 30
I will extol you, O Lord, for you have drawn me up,
AND DID NOT LET MY FOES REJOICE OVER ME.
O Lord, you brought up my soul from Sheol, restored me to life…
SING PRAISES TO THE LORD, O YOU HIS FAITHFUL ONES, AND GIVE THANKS TO GOD’S HOLY NAME!

*Hymn 284 "They'll Know We Are Christians"

Let us be before our God in silence.

Unison Prayer: Psalm 40:11ff
DO NOT, O LORD, WITHHOLD YOUR MERCY FROM ME; LET YOUR STEADFAST LOVE AND YOUR FAITHFULNESS KEEP ME SAFE FOREVER. FOR EVILS HAVE ENCOMPASSED ME WITHOUT NUMBER; MY INIQUITIES HAVE OVERTAKEN ME, UNTIL I CANNOT SEE; THEY ARE MORE THAN THE HAIRS OF MY HEAD; AND MY HEART FAILS ME. BE PLEASED, O LORD, TO DELIVER ME; O LORD, MAKE HASTE TO HELP ME.

Kyrie (sung)
LORD, HAVE MERCY ON US.
CHRIST, HAVE MERCY ON US.
LORD, HAVE MERCY ON US.

A Word of Assurance:

The Summary of God's Law (Mark 12:29-31)
This is the first commandment:
HEAR O ISRAEL,
THE LORD OUR GOD,
THE LORD IS ONE!
THEREFORE YOU SHALL LOVE THE LORD YOUR GOD
WITH ALL YOUR HEART,
WITH ALL YOUR SOUL,
WITH ALL YOUR MIND,
AND WITH ALL YOUR STRENGTH.
This is the second commandment:
YOU SHALL LOVE YOUR NEIGHBOR AS YOURSELF.
There is no greater commandment than these.

The Baptism of our Lord

OUR APPROACH TO GOD
Prelude
Introit "Come Holy Spirit, Dove Divine" H. Smith

Welcome

Call to Worship: St. Ephraem, 4th century
The sun conquers and the steps by which it approaches its zenith show forth a mystery.
LO! IT IS TWELVE DAYS SINCE HE BEGAN TO MOUNT UPWARD AND TODAY IS THE THIRTEENTH DAY.
It is the perfect symbol of the Son and his twelve apostles.
THE DARKNESS OF WINTER IS CONQUERED, TO SHOW THAT SATAN IS CONQUERED.
The sun conquers so that all may know:
THAT THE ONLY-BEGOTTEN SON OF GOD TRIUMPHS OVER ALL.

Join us for our annual congregational meeting right after worship this morning. Stay and share your thoughts, concerns and dreams with us. U are the CH_RCH!

Join us next Saturday at 10:30 AM for our EPIPHANIES RETREAT! We are meeting here at New Utrecht and this exciting spiritual journey is open to everyone, neighbors, family friends and the general public. Bring a brown bag lunch to share. We will conclude with the Eucharist at 2 PM. Ask yourself: How and where do I encounter God in my life and in my world? How I can help others experience God?

Next Sunday is Consistory immediately following our worship!
