 Ash Wednesday: A Korean-English serviceOrganist's
son a nominee at the Academy AwardsOn Wednesday,
February 25th the New Utrecht Reformed Church and the Mirral Church
celebrated a joint Ash Wednesday service at the Parish House. Ministers
from both congregations distributed ashes. This is the first time that
the Mirral congregation celebrated an Ash Wednesday service. Coffee and
doughnuts was served after service.
 Bob Peterson, son
of New Utrecht's organist, the Rev. Bob Peterson, was a nominee at last
Sunday's Academy Awards. Peterson, one of three screenwriters nominated
for Best Original Screenplay for the movie "Finding Nemo,"
failed to win an Oscar; that went to Sofia Coppola for the movie "Lost in
Translation." "Finding Nemo," however, did win an Academy Award for
Best Animated Feature. Had Peterson won, he would have thanked his
father, who was in Southern California last Sunday and had surgery on
Thursday.

      | THE
eucharist prepares us to return to daily life
with a more sensitive awareness of Jesus' presence. By profound
experience of God at prayer and the reading of scripture, we become all
the more conscious of Jesus' otherwise hidden presence in all the other
moments of life. With renewed faith, we ought to be able to look hopefully and enthusiastically at life all about
us.
Some important questions come to mind. Do we believe that Jesus can
take our most crippled moments and transform them onto great
possibilities? Do we believe that Jesus can work miracles today? Are we
able to slough off discouragement and frustration, and vigorously turn
ourselves around and return to the holy city of divine accomplishments?
