Conductor Paul Corn and
the Susan E. Wagner High School Jazz
Band from Staten Island as they
                                  appeared at the Festival Disney
competition in Florida where the band
                                  won first place overall.

Friends of Historic New Utrecht presents the award-winning Susan E. Wagner High School Jazz Band in a free public concert at the New Utrecht Reformed Church on Saturday, May 4, at 7:30 p.m.

The band won first place overall at the 2013 Festival Disney competition in Florida on March 22. They received a superior rating, won "best in class" honors, came in first place among all performing jazz ensembles, and received the highest score of any band in the competition, conductor Paul Corn reports. The competition was comprised of about 15 schools traveling from all over the country.

The Brooklyn concert will take place in the Parish House of the church at 84th Street and 18th Avenue in Bensonhurst. The concert is one of a series of free cultural and historical events sponsored throughout the year by the Friends historic organization. The Jazz Band last appeared at New Utrecht in May 2010. At the May 4 concert, light refreshments will be served. Bus and subway stops are nearby.
